Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and form an important part of fish nutrition. Fish can detect them very well and perceive them as a signal of the presence of food. Therefore, they seek sources that contain amino acids, because they instinctively signal a potential food source to them.

It is widely known that fish have an exceptionally sensitive sense of smell. We have found that fish are able to perceive the scent of amino acids even at a concentration of 8 nanograms per liter - which is the equivalent of one teaspoon of sugar in an Olympic swimming pool!
